The National Vintage Racing Association, Inc. is
a 501c7 non-profit Georgia Corporation and membership
in the NVRA is open to everyone who shares our
passion for vintage automobile racing. The NVRA
sanctions and promotes the “Vintage Thunder” Racing
Series, the largest touring vintage stockcar
racing series in the United
States. Our
mission is to provide todays race fans with the
opportunity to experience the sights and sounds
of southern stock car racing the way it was back
in the day.
Many of our vintage racecars are restored
originals that were raced on tracks in the southeast
in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s,
while others are replicas of racecars from that
era. Five
divisions of vintage stockcars compete in the
Vintage Thunder racing series. Flathead
and 6-cylinder powered cars from 1930 to 1957
comprise our Limited Sportsman division; the
Modified Sportsman division is made up of year
model cars from 1930 to 1954 and run OHV V-8
engines; our Late Model division is divided into
two classes, Sportsman & Modified, both classes
are made up of car models from 1949 to 1968. Late Model Sportsman cars have OEM frames
with OHV-V-8 engines, while Late Model Modified
cars can run modified chassis with OHV V-8 power. The
quickest of our vintage divisions is the Modified
Open cars which represent the highly modified
stock cars that appeared in the late 1960’s
through the mid 1970’s.
The NVRA chartered it’s first state
chapter in 2005. The
Georgia Chapter has nearly 100 members statewide. Other
state chapters will be chartered when a sufficient
number of NVRA members in other states petition
for chapter status.
